Healthy Options on the go!

Let me paint you a picture. We’re a family on the move. Always. Because somehow, our lives are a nonstop whirlwind of activities, errands, and attempting to find a minute of peace. You know, the usual. Now, hereโ€™s the kickerโ€”our food requirements are special. As in, weโ€™ve got allergies, intolerances, and preferences galore. So finding snacks that everyone can eat is an art form. I mean, I avoid gluten, my husband and daughter avoid dairy (because why wouldnโ€™t we all have different needs?), and my sonโ€”bless his heartโ€”can eat absolutely anything. A snack for him? No problem.

But for the rest of us? Well, letโ€™s just say that after over many years of navigating the food minefield, weโ€™ve learned what works, what doesn’t, and which snacks wonโ€™t make us cry in frustration. Hereโ€™s a rundown of our go-to healthy snacks that are as quick to grab as they are delicious.

Proteins

Protein Balls: We make the ones with Arbonne protein powder, GF rice cereal, honey and nut butter.

Summer Sausage: I pack a knife and small cutting board and we make our own homemade lunchables with crackers and GF crackers.

Hard-Boiled Eggs:โ€ฏ Easy to peel and eat.

Protein Bars:โ€ฏ Look for low-sugar, high-protein options.

Nuts and Seeds:โ€ฏ Almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, or mixed nuts.

Nut Butters:โ€ฏ Almond, cashew, or peanut butter; pack with green apple slices or gluten-free crackers.

Jerky:โ€ฏOpt for low-sodium and low-sugar options.

Roasted Chickpeas:โ€ฏCrunchy and protein-rich, seasoned to taste.

Fruit

Apple Slices:โ€ฏPack with a bit of lemon juice to prevent browning.

Berries:โ€ฏStrawberries, blueberries, or raspberriesโ€”easy to eat and nutritious.

Bananas:โ€ฏNaturally packed in their own skin, so no mess.

Grapes:โ€ฏEasy to pack and eat; just wash and go.

Clementines or Oranges:โ€ฏPeeled or segmented for easy snacking.

Dried Fruit:โ€ฏChoose options with no added sugar, like dried apricots or raisins.

Peaches: They are a mess but SO yummy. I put them in a separate container so they stay safe.

Vegetables

Veggie Sticks:โ€ฏCarrot, celery, and cucumber sticks are refreshing and easy to pack.

Cherry Tomato’s: Easy!

Snap Peas:โ€ฏConvenient and crunchy.

Carrots:โ€ฏPeel and cut and easy to eat, eat with a dip like hummus or nut butter.

Easy to Pack and Go!

Hummus with Veggie Sticks:โ€ฏCarrot, celery, and cucumber sticks are great with a small container of hummus.

Mini Pita Pockets:โ€ฏStuff with lean protein, veggies, and a little hummus or yogurt-based sauce.

Trail Mix:โ€ฏMake your own with nuts, seeds, and a few dried fruits for a balanced snack.

Whole Grain Crackers:โ€ฏPair with cheese or a small amount of nut butter.

Smoothie Packs:โ€ฏPre-make smoothies and freeze them in portable containers or bottles.

Homemade Trail Mix:โ€ฏMix nuts, seeds, and gluten-free dried fruit like raisins or apricots.

Gluten-Free Crackers:โ€ฏPair with avocado or nut butter for a quick snack.
